Volunteer

At Somerset West Community Health Centre (SWCHC), we recognize that volunteer work improves both individual and community health.

On an individual level, volunteering provides a meaningful purpose and an opportunity for social interaction. It is also an opportunity to learn new skills and gain work experience. At the community level, volunteers contribute to the rich fabric of our community by sharing special skills, interests and time.

There are a few options: Review this webpage for current volunteer opportunities. Register in our volunteer database so that we have a way to reach out to you when there are new postings. When you register, you will choose ‘general interests’ from a list. You will receive information about any postings that match your general interest areas, as they become available. You can apply for the specific volunteer positions that interest you, by following the directions on the posting. Register Here. Request a paper copy of the registration form by contacting Allison Levac at 613-402-1090 or alevac@swchc.on.ca.
  • What kinds of volunteering does SWCHC support?
We invite volunteer contributions that cross the Spectrum of Volunteer Engagement from giving voice/taking action to active participation and leadership. Here are some examples: Giving Voice, Taking Action Sign a petition Attend an event about an issue Active citizenship Join the Advocacy Committee Active Participation Community service Micro-volunteering Skills-based volunteering Short-term volunteering Long-term volunteering Family volunteering Leadership Consulting Board of Directors
  • Will I need a police record check?
We list the screening requirements for each volunteer role on the position description. Depending on the nature of the role, we may need references and/or a police record check within the last three months. If a police record check is required for a role, we can provide a letter that you can use to apply at a lower cost. We may also be able to cover the cost if this is a barrier.
