Remembering Phil Brown
It is with saddened hearts that the Board of Directors and staff of Somerset West Community Health Centre mourn the loss of a dear friend, Phil Brown, who passed away peacefully on November 6, 2015. At the time of his passing, Phil was the treasurer of the Somerset West CHC Board of Directors.
As project manager and consultant for Jackson-Brown Associates, Phil oversaw both of Somerset West CHC’s major capital planning projects – the development of our two branches at 55 Eccles and more recently at 30 Rosemount. His role in the growth of Somerset West CHC over the past 20 years is only one of many contributions he made to the development and construction of affordable housing, community health centres and social agencies across Ontario.
An active community member, Phil sat on numerous boards of non-profit organizations, including Somerset West CHC where he served in the late 1990s and was re-elected in June 2015. Reflecting on his long-time colleague, Jack McCarthy, Executive Director of Somerset West CHC, noted simply that “Phil was a wonderful man and an amazing colleague. He will be greatly missed.”
Phil's passion for social justice and his entrepreneurial spirit are a lasting legacy at Somerset West CHC.
We wish to extend our condolences to Phil’s wife, Joanne Jackson, and children Michelle Jackson-Brown (Tristan Maack), Mark (Alicia Mah), and Sarah (Mike Tucker).
