Federal Government Reverses Position on Cuts to Refugee Healthcare

(Toronto, ON - July 5, 2012) – The Canadian Association of Community Health Centres (CACHC) applauds Canada’s federal government for taking first steps to reverse its ill-conceived and widely-unpopular cuts to health-care coverage for refugees and refugee claimants in Canada.  The government’s recent reversal of policy for one particular category of refugees – Government Assisted Refugees – means that services will be maintained for many families and individuals, and federal policy is gradually being restored to reflect greater fairness and effectiveness for all residents of Canada.
