Denouncing Hate Crimes: Somerset West Community Health Centre Stands in Solitary with Community

Saturday, November 19, 2016

Ottawa has recently witnessed a series of shocking hate crimes. These are very disturbing and do not reflect our community. Somerset West Community Health Centre (SWCHC) stands in solidarity with our community in finding these recent attacks totally unacceptable. An attack on one faith is an attack on all faiths.

SWCHC is committed to providing services in an anti-racist, anti-oppressive environment that is safe for people. This means there is no assault, challenge or denial of their identity. It means relationships based on shared respect. It means working in the spirit of learning, living and working together with truth, love and bravery, and acknowledging that diversity makes our community stronger.

In this difficult period, it is important for us all to come together in denouncing these acts. Please join us at tomorrow's Community Solidarity Walk at the corner of Island Park Drive and Scott Street at 12:00pm. The walk goes to Wellington and Somerset streets and finishes at Plant Bath.
