Lung Health Program
The Ottawa Community Lung Health Program provides a range of services for people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma.
The program consists of the following three services to help clients better manage their conditions.
Ottawa Community Lung Health Program
The Ottawa Community Lung Heath Program (OCLHP) provides an evidence based approach that improves the health and quality of life of people living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The OCLHP consists of assessment, spirometry (breathing test), education, the development of an action plan and follow-up care for clients with COPD . When someone is referred to the lung health program, they will be seen by a Registered Respiratory Therapist/Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE). The CRE will help you understand and manage your symptoms.
The OCLHP also provides a community based Pulmonary Rehab (PR)Program.
This 12-week pulmonary rehabilitation program is designed for people with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) to decrease symptoms and improve their ability to function in daily life.
The program consists of exercise, education, and support delivered in two phases: an 8-week training phase (2 sessions per week) and a 4-week maintenance phase (1 session per week). Clients are followed by a Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE) and supervised by a personal trainer while exercising.
Primary Care Asthma Program
The Primary Care Asthma Program is for people with a confirmed diagnosis of asthma or COPD to learn how to better manage their condition.
A Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE) teaches clients how to identify symptoms, manage medications, and master breathing and medical device techniques. In addition, we offer spirometry to rostered clients of any community health centre (CHC) physician or nurse practitioner in Ottawa and its surrounding areas.
This is service is available for Community Health Centre (CHC) clients only.
Up to 26 weeks of free nicotine replacement therapy coupled with individual smoking cessation counselling. To participate, people must live in the Somerset West Community Health Centre service area.
No referral required. Call 613-288-0163 to register.
This program is part of the STOP study through the Centre of Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).
