Breastfeeding Resources

SWCHC is proud to be certified by the Baby-Friendly Initiative of the World Health Organization. You will find extensive support for breastfeeding from all our staff, including our lactation consultant.

About our Doctors

Our doctors work in an on-call group with 6 other Ottawa family physicians out of the Civic Hospital, providing coverage for our patients at delivery time. All members of the group share a similar philosophy and approach to family-centred maternity care. You will have the opportunity to meet the entire group of physicians at our quarterly "Meet The Doctors" evenings.

What to Expect at Delivery

The family physicians at SWCHC deliver babies at The Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus on Carling Avenue. At the Civic Hospital we are family centered and offer a comfortable birth atmosphere for the low risk patient.

What to Expect at SWCHC When You're Expecting!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! The SWCHC pregnancy team is privilege that you have chosen us to be part of this most exciting time for you and your family. Once registered with us all pregnant patients are assigned to one of our Pregnancy Team physicians. Prenatal appointments are offered weekdays as well as Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

How to refer a patient for Prenatal Care

We accept referrals from family physicians and nurse practitioners for prenatal care. We would be pleased to share antenatal care with any physician or nurse practitioner who would like to remain involved during the pregnancy, or alternatively take over their care from the second trimester on. As prenatal care is "outside the basket" of services for FHG/FHO/FHT/FHN models of care, your patients can be seen by our physicians without penalty to you. Please click here for the referral form.

Obstetrical Care

Expecting a baby? Our physicians and nurse practitioners offer friendly, personal care to women with low-risk pregnancies who will deliver at the Civic Campus of The Ottawa Hospital. We accept referrals from local providers and pregnant women can also self-refer.
