Primary Care Asthma Program

The Primary Care Asthma Program is a program for people with a confirmed diagnosis of asthma or COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) to learn how to better self-manage their condition.  It consists of assessment, education, the development of an action plan, and follow-up care.

Clients are followed by a Registered Respiratory Therapist/Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE) to help them learn to identify symptoms, manage medications, and master proper medication device and breathing techniques.

Please note that in addition to the services above, spirometry (breathing test) can be provided to clients registered to any community health centre physician or nurse practitioner in Ottawa and its surrounding areas.

Lung Health Program

The Primary Care Asthma Program is part of Somerset West Community Health Centre's Lung Health Program.  This program provides a range of services to help people with COPD and asthma better self-manage their conditions.
